Calming The Storm Of Procrastination
Procrastination, the act of delaying or postponing personal and professional tasks, often leads to a sense of time passing unnoticed. It’s a common scenario: you have an assignment due, yet phrases like “I have plenty of time” or “I’ll do it later” seem to justify the delay. Unfortunately, this mindset can manipulate your brain that you have endless time. This cycle of procrastination is both perplexing and counterproductive.
Procrastination is not only about laziness; it is often because of poor planning and our emotional perspective toward the tasks. Without proper planning, a day will be chaotic. Moreover, when we approach tasks with a negative emotional perspective, such as thinking “That’s a difficult task! I can’t do it,” it often leads to stress and stops us from completing the task. With each day offering 24 hours, it’s crucial to allocate time wisely between “Rest” and “Productivity.” “Productivity” does not necessitate perfection; rather, make consistent efforts according to your capabilities. Believe that every small step you take is an effort towards becoming the best version of yourself and productive actions reinforce self-worth. Similarly, “Rest” does not solely mean sleep; it includes activities like spending time with family, caring for pets, or engaging in spiritual practices. These moments of rest recharge your energy.
In the pursuit of our goals, procrastination frequently emerges as a barrier. The key question then becomes: how can we overcome procrastination?
Commitment
Having a strong commitment to achieve the goal can lead us to be a good planner. Moments of having commitment sometimes comes from mistakes in life or procrastinating itself, which is leading a person in certain situations to think, “okay, I need to change so I can complete the tasks well.” For example, students have a habit of waking up and immediately grabbing their cell phone, resulting in the assignment being neglected. This experience teaches the students to have a strong commitment to not procrastinate on tasks by managing her work strategies.
Better planning
Once we make a commitment, we’re equipped with a strategy to confront our challenges. Each individual has a different approach to manage time, just as every tool utilised exhibits its own unique characteristics. From my personal experience, no single tool is superior over others when it comes to facilitating private decision-making processes that are agreeable. Most importantly, the tool enables us to pursue tasks effectively based on our individual preferences. The tools for managing tasks could include a variety of options such as a notebook, Google Calendar, and so forth.
Divided task into small parts
Instalment plan or Metode Cicil is an efficient method for completing large tasks. We can start with the easiest and work our way up to the more difficult ones because once we’ve started a task, there’s a willingness to finish it. One example is ironing a pile of clothes; we can sort them by type, such as pants, shirts, and others, and place them in different boxes. Once we start, we will feel satisfied that we have begun the biggest task.
To calm the storm of procrastination, we can try the three crucial steps mentioned above. However, these strategies could potentially expand to four or even five, depending on each individual’s approach to combating procrastination. Overcoming procrastination is not only beneficial for our families, our workplaces, and ourselves but also fulfils our responsibility to God, the master of time.
We’re all accountable to God, for how we use time each day; Are moments chosen carefully, Or Wasted mindlessly away?
