Education Expo by SAGU Foundation in Collaboration with Mata Garuda Papua
SAGU Foundation, in collaboration with Mata Garuda Papua and supported by the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Treasury (DJPb) of Papua Province, organised the Education Expo on May 1-2, 2023, at Gedung Keuangan Negara (GKN) in Jayapura.
The Education Expo by SAGU Foundation was officially opened by the Assistant II of the Jayapura City Secretariat, Mrs. Ir. Widhi Hartanti, accompanied by the Chairperson of Mata Garuda, Deputy Chairperson of Commission C of DPRD Kabupaten Jayapura, the Head of the Regional Office of DJPb Papua, and the Program Manager of SAGU Foundation.
The activities on the first day included the presentation of certificates and plaques to the Reading House, Book Month Participants, and Creative Writing Participants. There was also a Guest Lecture by Dr. Michael Bell from Flinders University, Australia, the information session of LPDP scholarships by Maria Jochu S.IP, M.Sc., accompanied by moderator Baiq Tartillah STP., Mfood. Sc. from Mata Garuda Papua, as well as an educational exhibition featuring the participation of Australia Awards Scholarship, EducationUSA, UPT Language Services UNCEN, SaCode, Papua Trada Sampah (PTS), Purna Caraka Muda Indonesia (PCMI), and Bank Mandiri.
There was also UMKM exhibition showcasing the businesses of young Papuan entrepreneurs such as Kopich, Dapur Syowi, Dapur Tong Punya, RotBar Kompak, and Boba id.
This event was conducted in a hybrid format and was also attended online by partners and stakeholders from both domestic and international institutions, including foreign scholarship providers such as IALF Bali and Australia Awards Indonesia.
On the second day of the event, the activities includes a talk show featuring education experts in Papua, namely Prof. Dr. Yohana Yembise, Dip.Apling, MA, Julius Ary Mollet, SE, MBA, Dr.MTDev, Ph.D, Dr.Ir.Agus Sumule, and Dr. James Modouw, M.MT, with Tom Reumi, SH, MH as the moderator.
This was followed by “Meet the Legends” session which is a discussion with a lineup of senior educators such as Rev. Lydia Goo Karetji, Dr. Wigati Yektiningtyas Modouw, M.Hum, Rev. Dr. Martha Wospakrik, and Mrs. Maria Bakker Werimon, moderated by Kristo Aronggear, S.S.
The third session continued with a talk show featuring two literacy activists in Jayapura, Raimon Maniani from Faimbari House reading centre and Mrs. Hanny Felle from Onomi Niphi reading centre, along with an educational exhibition participated by Australia Awards Scholarship, UPT Language Services UNCEN, SaCode, Papua Trada Sampah (PTS), Purna Caraka Muda Indonesia (PCMI), and Bank Mandiri. The highlight of the event was the book launch titled “Sa Tra Pernah Melangkah Sendiri” (I Never Walked Alone), which contains a collection of inspiring stories written by students from SUP Vokasi 2020 about their journeys and experiences in applying for scholarships. Currently, the 29 student authors are studying in Australia with the SUP Vokasi scholarship from the Papua Province, managed by BPSDM Papua Province.
There was also the distribution of certificates and prizes to the winners of the Papuan Folklore Storytelling and Essay Writing competitions.
